From Our Garden – June ’16

June 29, 2016

Why you should eat organic strawberries…

The harvest is in – the last of the strawberries from the garden.  The flavor is outstanding – each little berry tastes like its dipped in sugar.  So sweet, so perfectly acidic.  This time of year, we eat as many fresh berries as possible and our fingers (and a few shirts) are stained with juices.  I’m reminded…

Our grandparents, parents and younger selves were right – the fruits we eat today are NOT the same as the fruits of yesteryear!

I get emotional when I compare the strawberries from our organic garden to the strawberries at the grocery store. Store berries are large, uniform and without expiration.  Clearly, they have their benefits.  They handle shipping, storing, stocking, sales counters, hot vehicles, cold refrigerators, and still provide some nutritional value. However, the appearance and flavor pales in comparison to the brilliant red, near-wild, organic berries from the garden.

Flavor is not all that is lacking.  Nutritional content is declining too.

Notable decreases, particularly for key nutrients like calcium, iron, phosphorus, riboflavin, and ascorbic acid have been well documented in a variety of fruits and vegetables.  Modern agricultural methods and soil depletion are identified as the cause of decreased nutrients in our foods.  For a more comprehensive list of what is missing from your fruit and veggies click here.

This information is so important to digest, because it challenges one of PPT’s core beliefs:

We believe that Nature provides the vitamins and nutrients that are essential to healing.

In our modern world, Nature’s diet is pretty hard to come by.  The soil in which food is grown in isn’t what it used to be.  This requires some attention if you want to live a healthy life!  So, we are re-emphasizing tips for healthier living.

Summer provides an abundant supply of Nature’s best sources of vitamins and nutrients.  Take advantage!

Don’t miss the opportunity to harvest the last of your homegrown strawberries…

Head to the hills in search of a wild berry vine…

Treat yourself at your local organic market…

Although we design some of the best nutritional supplements on the market, we also feel its important to remind our community that nutrient rich foods translate into fewer $$$ spent on nutritional supplements and better health for you!
